I would be willing to wager that Dots are moving up on the liberal hit list. I can see a politician from a blue state standing up and stating that they should be outlawed because they give the shooter an unfair advantage against a perpetrator................

Oh, I agree with that. But I think it was pretty obvious that I was referring to your comment here...

Could not agree more. I think the entire idea of training, special equipment etc. is typical internet over the top nonsense.
The idea of training is internet nonsense? Really?

    Really?

    Wow.

It's pretty clear that politicians in blue states will stand up and say anything anti-gun that comes to mind, regardless of how little sense it makes.

But speaking of making little sense..... I'm confident that you and KR will counter that having an optical sight mounted will slow down the defender's response and make the perps much safer. So, no worries.

Wow, you really missed the point. I guess you do need a Red Dot. Good Luck. Obvious you do not have a clue what I was referring to.

With this Ruger PC9. Very much like this little carbine.

Lets not turn this Red Dot thing into a fisticuff huh? Too each his very own. I take a poke now and again out a ways just for the challenge and the fun. That's what it's mostly about anyhow unless of course you live in Chicago or Seattle or New York. In my neighborhood there are rarely any hazards but I still carry every waking moment, cause I just love guns. Red Dot or far and away mostly not. I got one just to see what the hype is. It has strong suits and weak suits, personally I don't like suits cause you gotta usually wear a tie and I hate ties. For my old pals in uniform at the police department I think the Red Dots are a plus. I was opposed but in hindsight I think they help them a bunch. Course we haven't had a officer involved shooting since the town had a Marshal. Naw, it weren't Matt Dillon.
Hey Colonel I have that exact setup. Our tastes seem to run in the same direction. And that's some good shootin'. Good thing we bought ours when we could!

No good reason not to have a small pistol with a red dot, especially for us older folks. UNLESS one can be sure that any self-defense situation we find ourselves in will be no further out than point and shoot distance. I can't guarantee that. I can hedge my bets by staying out and away from places that might involve a fight at a greater distance but I can't guarantee it won't happen simply because I can't control the bad guys out there and they aren't going to respect my preference to have everything happen up close. Even if they were aware of it, which they aren't.

Didn't notice but I put a round forend on mine before I shot that target. I'll get another picture. It's a bit lighter, balances a bit better and I like the look so a triple win.

I need one of those PC Carbines.
The only thing better than having all the guns and ammo you'd ever need would be being able to shoot it all off the back porch.

I am not about to put a Red Dot on a small Pistol. Worthless IMO. If I really feel that I need to go past 15 yds, then I will start to carry a larger pistol. Like a compact. I took my old Ruger SR9C out Sunday. Nice gun, mild shooting, more of a target style trigger than the DAO which I prefer. I specifically went out to shoot at 25 yds. I put a Small Glow target on a 25yd Silhouette target. I do not practice at that range however I had no problem putting in 80-85% of the rounds in the Hit areas. Many rounds in the Glow target which was about a 5" target. I have old eyes. The only issue I had was I could not see the hits in the target. I only rapid fire my guns. At the most 1-3 sec. between shots. I was surprised to see I had actually done as well as I did. The thing is a Red Dot would have made zero difference. They are not scopes. For magnification they would not be of any help. Now, I could not do this with a sub compact or smaller. But that is not why I carry one.

Now I understand that Mall distance is 40yds. So without a red dot or with a red dot I would be just taking a chance on having some basic skill and a lot of luck. At that distance, yes, a PC Carbine or AR. Red dot is IMO for fast moving targets/Multiple fast moving targets at those distances or greater. and with a PC, AR or shotgun. I HAVE red dots. But they are on my Shotguns and some 22.cal rifles And AR for 50yds. However, I actually prefer a small Scope for those distances. The magnification is the Key for me at those distances. (old eyes) In fact, Put a small scope on my Henry 22.cal and shoot clay Pigeons very rapidly with the scope.
Each to his own. I guess if I personally go into a mall, I will need to bring a bigger gun like the Compact and a shotgun or Carbine if I need to go the Mall distance of 40 yds.which seems to be the internet standard distance when Mall shopping and gunfire erupts. And I need to start training for that distance.
I understand that there are all kinds of Possibilities that exist. How as Ken Hawthrorn said, and I will take his advice, focus on the "probabilities and not the Possibilities".

I know the Military recruits train with the open sights and Red Dots. However I believe they are not doing this for Old eyes as I do not think there are many 50-80 year old recruits, although I could be wrong. I believe that they most likely do this as in Combat there will be "Fast moving and Multiple targets".

You could look back at all my comments on the subject. You would not find one that stated I thought that having an optical sight would slow a defender down. So, no worries.
