Default Breaking-in P380, casings look weird

I put the first 114 rounds through my new P380 today, mostly Norma Range & Target FMJ.

Only two failures to load, back-to-back (Norma). The round I chambered by dropping the slide fired, but the next round failed to clear the mag. I dropped the mag and that was it; round still in the mag.

I also shot a seven round string of Underwood Xtreme Defender, 68gr +P, and seven of Inceptor ARX, 56 gr.. These had no issues.

The weird thing is 1/4 of surface the casings (neck to base), was black or dark gray with soot. This is my first semi-auto center-fire, and I don't know what I am seeing.

I'm very pleased that the recoil was very manageable (I'm old), and even the +P rounds in the six round mag (with no pinky extension), was do-able. Can any body tell me if the dirty casings are normal?

    Thanks

Did you clean the gun before shooting it?

BTW - those are great results for the first outing

muggsy: Let's face it, being shot by a .380 will ruin anyone's day.

Welcome to Kahrtalk Terror and the soot on the cases is normal so clean and lube it up good per the manual and see if you can get a hundred rounds through it with a good tight grip and quality carry ammo without a problem and yes that’s expensive but I’m thinking if you give it a good cleaning and lube job you will have a keeper…….Kahr recommends 500 rounds through their pistols to break them in so keep at it and I bet you will have a nice easy shooting pocket pistol…….The more rounds down range the better the gun will function for you……..

That's a fairly common thing. For a variety of reasons, the cases aren't expanding far enough or fast enough to completely seal against the chamber; this results in a bit of gas blowing back around the case mouth.

    BTW, welcome to the forums

    Regards,
    Greg

Yes, per instructions. I also installed the Galloway reduced power striker spring kit, though I can't tell if there is any reduced trigger pull, it feels the same.
