Kahr PM445 installation?
I've read that kahr pistols are more difficult than other maker's guns to install night sights on is this true? I want to have night sights installed on my PM45 but I don't want to have to send it back to kahr to have this done.
Is this the only way to do this or can a good gunsmith with the right tools do it as easily as another type of handgun? Thanks.

Kahr pistols seem to have tight dovetails and it is difficult to install sights unless you have a good quality sight pusher which any good gunsmith should have and with the proper tool it’s no problem and not necessary to send it back to Kahr…….If you can’t find a qualified gunsmith then you can ship just the slide to Trijicon and they can do it for you….I’ve used Trijicon several times in the past and they are a quality sight manufacturer and will do you right……Good luck!

Hi getsome thanks for the information.what was trigicon's turn around time? Thanks for letting me know that they offer this service as I didn't know that I could get them installed this way.

Trijicon is a top notch company and will be able to answer turn around time if you give them a call 800-338-0563 or email Trijicon.com I have had many night sights installed by them and they are first rate and no more expensive than buying sights and hoping the gunsmith you can find will do the job right…….All the night sights they have installed for me on several pistols and revolvers are still bright and good as day one……Trijicon is not the only company offering sight installation for Kahr pistols and Dawson Precision is another option offering high quality products and service, I’ve never had dealings with Dawson but many here have and if you go with them I’m sure they will take care of you…….Good luck and let us know how it goes…….

So what’s the reason Kahr sights are more difficult to install? Maybe because the internet says so.
-
DJK11 I've read and heard that they are fit more tightly in the dovetails than other makers sights are.
-
I've changed them out, but only after purchasing a quality sight pusher.
If you do, just remember, when looking at the gun from back to front,
-----------> Remove
<---------- Install

That’s news to me. I wonder why they’re fitted so tightly. Maybe a tendency to shift more on a Kahr than other pistols. I must have been lucky with the six or so Kahrs I’ve removed and installed sights onto. Could be the big machinist vice and monster sledge hammer. Oh well, just follow the correct direction as mentioned by DAO in his post.

Now after pondering a bit. Maybe some say they are difficult to change because “they” don’t have the ability to change them out be it the knowledge, physical ability, tools, patience, desire, intestinal fortitude, ect, ect. Heck “they” may have tried and destroyed the sight or slide.
I’m done.

Yes, the dovetails are indeed tapered. Following DAO’s advice is key to success
