Always liked the top breaks. I'm still wanting a modern 5'' Schofield number 3. Copy of course, have to sell the house to get a real one. Most are 45 Colt which I thought I wanted but I'm thinking I might do a 38/357 or maybe a 44/40.
I have one H&R 22 topbreak that's a shooter and few others that are not what I consider shooters. Did some trading with the police chief for those.

You kind of got me thinking about trying to age the hippo tooth grips. Maybe try my pomegranate stuff to see if it works. If it don't penetrate I can probably clean em back up. A little scary, what yall think?

Looked up the Schofield and it’s a beaut! I think that if Captain Nemo had a a revolver, that would be it.
I say go for it on the grips. Easy to say from over here. Ha! Ha! Nah, just working on these last 2 sets has shown me that they can be manipulated somewhat to look how we’d like. I bet they will look great, not that they don’t already.

I just tried a little of the Potassium Pomegranete fortunately on a scrap piece. It alway turns purple for a bit. On a piece that was really smooth like the grips it looks like it might work. It definitely penetrates. I'd forgotten that and used a rag with no gloves and I'm gonna have a black finger tip for a long time. Nothing taking it off.

I might try smoothing a larger scrap piece and try it again. These grips have quite a history, really don't want to take the chance of messing them up.

That sounds like some serious stuff. Good thing you have some pieces to test it on. Can it be diluted?

You might have something there. It's a powder and you just add water. I only made a tiny little bit but it was pretty strong. A weaker solution might just be the ticket. I'll try that tomorrow if I got time.

Just priced a pair of Mammoth grips for my CCO. Almost $700, but stabilized and warrantied to not break. "Aged", genuine imitation, is looking better all the time

I didn't know something as dense as ivory could be stabilized. I was told and never felt the need that ebony doesn't take stabilizing. Sad that ebony is so gosh durned expensive. It's durn hard but make a nice handle and checkers really well. Course it ain't near as expensive as that Mammoth stuff.

Not being extremely educated, apparently Walrus tusk were outlawed in 1972. On that same site, some stuff is north of 2k.

Yeah, I went to the website link and read that. Guess it must be true. I'm not expert by any stretch on stabilizing. Wife got me all the stuff to do it and I did a few batches that turned out pretty good. I need to get more of the juice to try it some more. It's kind of intense for my small mind. A lot of steps and time. I put blue dye in the last stuff, this time I don't think I'll do any dye, show more natural colors of the wood. Juice ain't cheap neither, bout 100 bucks plus a gallon if I remember right.
