I didn’t realize we were poor growing up, I thought bologna and cheese came in a hard chunk you had to slice yourself but it was because it
came from SSI Government food but I ate it anyway along with corn meal mush which was meal and carnation canned milk with a big glob of bacon drippings cooked up in a black skillet which was pretty good eating……We grew tomatoes, squash and corn in the back yard and what we didn’t eat made good soup for the winter but I will never forget eating a big bologna and cheese sandwich for lunch at school every day made with Sunbeam bread which made me strong…….
