    Default Old vs New Dovetails

Does anyone out there know the difference between the old dovetail and the new dovetails. I am trying to find night sights but cant find any for the old dovetails. If I can get the dimensions I can determine how to proceed. I have done a lot of work on 1911 pistols and I am very good at fitting sights to dovetails. I am hoping that the new dovetail is narrower than the old ones. I am looking for information on both front and rear dovetails.

    Thanks

My first generation K9 is in the big safe since I don't carry it anymore, and I won't be able to get into that for a week or two because it's buried behind some home improvement material. But if no one else comes through, I'll get those measurements after that project is out of the way.

Dawson has F.O. for the old style. Not sure about night sights.

Dawson can also tell you what those dimensions are as well. I'm not sure of the dimension but it's mostly the angle that changed. There should be a thread around here showing the difference. I'll see if I can find it.

This thread has a good picture that shows the difference. Might help some.

Call off the hounds!! I called Meprolight and they do still have the TruDot night sights for pre-2004 dovetails. They don't carry them as a set but you can buy them separately. I called customer service and they told me to look them up as separate pieces and they popped right up.

I ordered Dawson FO sights for the old style dovetail on my MK9 and the front sight finger-pushes right through the old dovetail from left to right. No contact, appears the foot thickness is a fraction of a mm too thin to capture the sight. I called Dawson and they said they aren't sure if the dimensions are for a MK9 or another model, so bottom line back they go to Dawson and I'm back to square 1, looking for new sights for a 2000-era MK9.
