Thread: P9 Covert Jam

  1. #1

    Default P9 Covert Jam

I've owned this since new in the early 2000's. Put over 1000 rounds of various brands of ammo. Recently had this jam on both factory mags and different ammo brands. After reading some forums I ordered the replacement recoil spring. Very very tight but I managed to get it to work. Still have the same issue. Has anyone else come across this happening before? I tried to include a picture of the failure but it's been so long since I've been on a computer I do not know how to include it. I'll see if I can figure it out........

One thing I have never done since it was new is disassemble the slide and thoroughly clean everything from the firing pin to the extractor. Pretty sure after 20+ years and over 1000 rounds it certainly wouldn't hurt 😉

Unless you use another source, you won't be able to post pics until you have 30 posts. Like you said, it couldn't hurt going through the slide. Start with the easy stuff. Ever had your magazines apart, cleaned and lubed? New mag springs? Slide release lever spring loose? What do you mean by a " jam "?

The empty casing was getting caught as the next round was trying to feed in. The picture would've explained it all but that didn't work. Kind of a weird policy on the pictures but it is what it is. When I pulled the firing pin mechanism and the extractor parts out one thing became obvious. Lubricant had gotten in there along with carbon and other contaminants from shooting it. It was my first automatic pistol 24 years ago and I'm guessing I put lube where I shouldn't have. I was always a revolver guy. Now everything has been cleaned like new and reinstalled. Won't know if that remedies the issue until I go to the range. Before I do that I'll go through the mags as well.

So, it was stove piping...........If your problem hasn't been remedied, I would look to the extractor and spring next. Don't take offense but were you maybe limp wristing?

No offense taken. No I was not limp wristing. And the casing that got hung up was not pointing up, it was facing the same way it came out just up above the new round going in. I've never seen anything like it. I wish there was a way I could show you the picture.

I think you can private message (PM) any member (me) and attach your pic and that member can post your pic here, in your thread.
You don't need a 3rd party photo site and can upload pics from your 'puter.
    Give that a try.
    jmo,
    .
I apologize if my post contains the same or similar information as someone who has posted before me.

Already tried that. It won't let you do it there either. Only other way is for me to email it to someone. Of course if we just keep the chat going back and forth I will eventually get there 😝
